Nothing in particular...

So I have been over at wordpress for a while, and thought i would check in here again, it seems quite a few blogs i follow have not appeared in the reading list over there ! Anyhow i will try to check in more often now, i found a lovely blog with delicious recipes,  an angel in the kitchen , I will be trying some of those goodies ! I tried to follow this in wordpress with no luck, which is odd. Technology fail again !   

So I have managed to finish my last quilt, its bound and ready for my mum, I just have to either send it or make the trip down to deliver it by hand, I know which one she would prefer ! Finding the right time at the moment is difficult, so it may have to be sent.

There is still another quilt to finish off, i started to stitch in the ditch, which i thought was a great idea until i had to turn it every few tiny blocks ! My arms were aching after a very short time !

Anyway, i hope the weekend is a lovley one for all of you :)

I just popped back, as I am now at ablogstar.com
blogger has been fun and easy to use but i was having so many issues it drove me crazy ! Anyway I have found wordpress a bit more technical especially with design. I will persevere and hope you can join me over there :)

Tech issues

If i knew how to redirect this blog to wordpress i would do it in an instant, something is wrong with my posts not being updated to blog lists, not happy jan.
So firstly there is a link to bloglovin which everyone is doing so I hopped on that band wagon.
Secondly if there is no solution to this problem I WILL get this blog redirected, so dont be alarmed if you land on wordpress, its still me :) So please come over to wordpress its better, believe me!

It seems my posts are not being published or at least I cant seem to see them in my dashboard list, this is very annoying, not sure what to do about it ! any help would be appreciated ! let me know if you are getting the posts in your reader

Thats Entertainment !

Its been a fun week, my son and I made a snap decision to see ZZ top and Guns n Roses which was great, although those guys are getting on a bit ! I loved ZZ top, but not a real fan of GnR, that was my son :0 I had to put in ear plugs !!

We also saw a well known comedian Wil Anderson on Friday, who was very funny, quite rude too ! We had seats a couple of rows back which was fantastic, thank god we were not in the front row, those people really were picked on ! It has been a fun time, we also stayed in a very nice hotel with a lovely view of the river, which was nice at night.

Blog hop party

Michelle from quilting gallery is hosting another blog hop party with give aways, yay ! 

I have just finished a quilt for a work collegue, she has just had a birthday, so I thought this might make her feel snuggly when its cool here :) She will laugh at that as she is from Finland!  Its got a bit of an Aussie theme in the quilting, lots of swirls and flowers, frangipanis and the squares on the back are in green and gold, for our country :)

Easy peasy pin wheels

Finally after two weeks of pouring rain we had a some of the concreting done :) The concrete pipe was fed through from the front door out to the back!

I won't bore you with more renos.

Instead here is my easy way to do pin wheels, well i think it was easy :)

Start with two squares of different fabric, mine were 10" layer cake,

 cut them across both diagonals without moving them after the first cut :)

You will end up with four 1/4 square triangles from each piece of fabric 

which you then make up like the one below

making sure you have two matching pieces opposite each other

separate the halves and sew two 1/4 triangles right sides together to make two 1/2 square triangles as shown below, all seams are 1/4"

sew the two HST together so you end up with the formation below

then carefully cut them again to make four squares

dont move them after the first cut so the second one is accurate, again :)

and then you will have this

So all you need to do is rotate two of the squares so that you end up with this

sew two of the squares together as you can see below

and repeat for the other two, 

then sew the two rectangles right sides together matching seams so the points will meet, 

using a 1/4 " seam allowance.

And voila here it is !

 

I hope you like this way to do pin wheels, I did get myself muddled a couple of times when not concentrating and ended up with odd ones !

this is the quilt top done with this method, then set on point,

 next post I will show you how to do this an easy way as well :)

Renovation mess

It's a disaster zone here at the moment, the concrete has been demolished around the pool and my garden has been ripped to shreds. Also silly husband has cut down some palms, which did look lovely,  and now it looks really terrible, so I am a bit depressed. I'm not a fan of palms normally, but I made an exception for these ones. Hopefully when all is done it will look ok, I will do some more planting. I'm in a fug. I know there are more important things to worry about, but I just wish there was a bit more consideration and sense in the man's head. Sorry about the whinge, I will get better. I will do some sewing on the weekend to take my mind off it all. Hope your week is going ok.

ozzie aftermath and more usa photos

After 4 days without power I nearly went mental in the heat and humidity, I went to Margs for some respite, she had the air con on :) Thanks Marg, you are a life saver! Fortunately we had no damage, although the slab did absorb some of the water and we are on a hill !  Onto other things, hubs is going to be in the US again in July, I would love to go with him, but would need a teenage sitter for a month, her brother will be busy studying in the city. So I probably wont be able to go :((

I loved it there even though they drive on the wrong side of the road!  The mountain ranges were extraordinary! Here are some photos of the trip through Death Valley on the way to Las Vegas.
There are loads more but i cant find them on the silly mac, grumble, silly husband has put them somewhere obscure.

Even though Death Valley is all dirt and the occasional tumbleweed, its still impressive although I am glad we went through in winter :)  It was chilly, we were glad to get back in the car with the heater on !
Its hard to believe we had our ski jackets on there, and here we have had the aircon blasting !

Well other than that not much is new, I have been sewing a little bit, but i get annoyed with myself when seams don't align properly, and then have to get up and walk away, otherwise i would do a psycho on the fabric, my patience is low at the moment ! Hope you are having a productive week, and hopefully i will be back soon :)

Ozzie

After months of drought cyclone ozwald has hit bringing wild weather to our coast, we have had so much rain its ridiculous ! I think our climate is changing, there have been such extremes, if its not bushfires its flood. I woke up to such gale force wind i thought the roof would fly off, luckily its still on ! It certainly put aussie day celebrations in the can up here.
Blogger doesnt seem to cooperate, again, with adding photos although i am using an ipad, so not sure if this makes a difference.  I'm not sure i like the limited functions of the ipad, but it is convenient to have. Its a good day to sit and sew, i have a few things to get on with, providing the power stays on, im not much of a hand sewer ! So happy weekend to all, hope its nice where you are :)

Party in the USA !

We had a fabulous time over in the USA, what an amazing country ! I will definitely be back, we did the west coast from LA to San Fran and then over to Lake Tahoe and down through Death Valley to Las Vegas, over to the Grand Canyon, back to Vegas and finally Disneyland in LA for New Years, it was a blast ! I loved San Fran, it has different areas to visit, it looks so lovely on the bay, and we had beautiful weather although it was cool. And no trip to the US is complete without a visit to Vegas ! We had fun, saw some funny shows, ate loads of great food and wondered about looking at the displays. But there is nothing that beats the sheer beauty of the landscape, the stunning mountain ranges, the Canyon, and snowy pine trees   God bless America !
