Gees Bend

These are very interesting quilts, I have only just discovered them! I had seen this quilt on Pottery Barn some time ago but I didn't realise it was  a copy of one of the quilts. Stunning!

 They are made from scraps as quilts were done years ago, from a small community that live in a bend in the Alabama river. There are many different types, they all tell a story, so there are wonky seams and no perfect straight lines, which make a very artistic result... there's hope for me yet :)

A little thank you present, reminder

There is another project on the go, a couple of old daggy chairs have been stripped and painted and are waiting for new seat covers, will post this when i get the photos sorted ! I love recycling and rejuventating old stuff,  and it saves loads of money !

Stars in my eyes!

Stars are my favourite designs, they can be a real eye catcher!

I made a version of this quilt a while back for my SIL, she loved it bless her, but I wasn't happy with the way the borders were finished, it wasn't square, but I had run out of  time to fix it properly unfortunately, as we had to catch a plane. I'm getting better at that sort of thing now! 

So I have this jelly roll "Garden Party" which I have had for some time now, and I think I may try this pattern again, it is lovely! 

I can't seem to find a photo of it finished which is a shame, I probably forgot! 

Anyway after I finish my chores I am going to play with them and see what i can come up with!

Nifty Thrifty Tuesday!

So here are the chairs that have been sitting around looking very sad for some time, so  I got handy, stripped them and gave them a fresh lick of paint. I should have taken a photo with the torn seat, it was sooo gross!

The seats are in need of a overhaul, I need to get a heavy duty fabric that can be sat on and withstand a bit of weather. And looks a bit pretty too of course!

Ta Da !

I think they turned out ok ! Now I wonder where the others went to....

London 2012

 Olympics are done for another four years,  I really enjoyed watching as much as I could, being on the opposite time zone was a challenge! I will miss all the images of London, my favourite city !
It is such a fabulous time for all the dreams and aspirations of those amazing athletes. All images from google.

 these were taken on my ph, not such good quality, but better than none!

The Abbey was very beautiful, I spoke to a lovely man there who helps out there, he was very informative, and there was a pianist playing at the time, which was fabulous.

I am starting to swear at the difficulty I am having trying to get the images from my ph,
google advertises how easy this is, hah, really?!  I did transfer the images, but it retrieved every image from my ph including those i looked at on emails, net surfing, blogs, everything! over 7500 images, holycow, i have to delete them and start again!

Gold medal finish!

Hah! Its only a quilt ! This has been sitting around waiting for the binding to be done for months, so finally its done! A big thank you has to go to Pamela, who teaches at Kims Sewing, for the tips, I am always needing help !

I did a blanket stitch on the binding for something different, sometimes it wobbled off the line but i guess its doesn't have to be perfect !

Keep it simple stupid !

I have been very busy trying to reorganize our home now that our son has moved back and I lost my sewing space, but it has made me sort out my stuff ! I would hate to have to pack and move ! I also looked at changing my blog layout, but decided it was taking too long, so just tidied it up a bit, hence the title ! I also have tried to become more tech savvy :) I wanted to load camera shots from my phone, so I got instagram on my phone only to find out it will only talk to Twitter or fb, neither do anything for me ! But i did get it to load via picassa! The photos are not that great ! I will use the real camera in future, it is cumbersome but much better quality shots. It's a beautiful day again, the dog and I are taking a break and enjoying a bit of sun.

The icecream parlour at Harrods was my favourite thing there !

This was divine, I had to go back for a second one !

I wish there was a Harrods here !
