Visiting the mother land - Uk

Ok a follow up of the last post.

We are going to London in june, this time sans children, wondering the English countryside in summer seems like the perfect thing to do.

We will of course do Scotland, I have already been told by a Scottish friend that the best shopping is in Glasgow- who knew?

 And of course Edinburgh

It looks magical in winter, will we stay?
Perhaps in a couple of years.

I'm sure you will have a wonderful time, with so much happening this summer. I hope you are able to get out into the countryside as well, and if you're heading for Middle England let me know.

In 2008 we spent 3 months in England - the best holiday we 've ever had. I'm not a fan of big cities so we stayed in cottages in the countryside and went in to cities like York, Cambridge, Oxford etc on day trips. But the countryside is BEAUTIFUL and the walks through the fields are terrific.
I'm soooo envious. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.
Cheers

I am spending a huge amount of time drooling over where to visit, at this rate i have ticked most of the major cities, i will need 3 months to see it all!

My maternal heritage is in southern England: London, Surrey, Berkshire, Wiltshire and Devon. My mother was evacuated to Wales during WWII, and my parents spent their honeymoon in Cornwall so, of course, I have to go there too. My great-great-great-grandmother on my father's mother's mother's side came from Glasgow and my husband also has Scottish heritage; we also both have Irish heritage -- do you think a year would be enough? LOL
